BATTLEFIELD NOTES #2: COVENANT LEADERSHIP
The Failure That Woke Me Up
I thought leadership meant providing, building, and driving forward. But I missed the truth: covenant leadership is not about control — it’s about laying your life down. I had confused activity with faithfulness, and when my marriage fractured, I faced the truth head-on. I had failed to lead as God designed.
And yet, in the rubble, God met me. Like Peter, who swore he would never deny Christ only to crumble three times, I wept over my weakness. But just as Jesus restored Peter and recommissioned him, He is restoring and recommissioning me. Leadership is not about perfection — it’s about covenant faithfulness.
The Battlefield Reality
Men are abandoning their posts. Some chase their careers while their marriages starve. Others are passive, numbing themselves with entertainment while their families fight spiritual battles uncovered. Many hide behind excuses: “She doesn’t respect me” … “The culture is too far gone” … “I’m not cut out for leadership.”
But the enemy knows: if he can remove covenant leadership, he can destroy homes, churches, and nations.
The Word of God
Ephesians 5:25 – “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.”
Nehemiah 4:14 – “Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your families, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.”
John 21:17 – “Feed my sheep.” (Jesus’ restoration of Peter wasn’t a pat on the back — it was a call to lead.)
Practical Leadership in Covenant
Lead Spiritually – Pray daily for and with your family. Even when they resist, stand your post.
Lead Sacrificially – Stop measuring leadership by comfort. Measure it by your willingness to first serve, bleed and repent.
Lead Consistently – Small, faithful acts outweigh big promises. Presence is greater than charisma.
Lead Humbly – Admit your failures. Confession doesn’t diminish respect — it earns it.
Lead with Vision – Paint a picture of a future under God’s blessing. Homes starve without vision.
The Charge
Men — covenant leadership is not optional. It is your divine calling. Whether your marriage is thriving, fractured, or gone, the charge remains: stand in the gap. Protect, provide, pray. Love your wife like Christ. Shepherd your children. Build your home as a fortress and a table.
If you’ve failed, repent. If you’re weary, lean into Christ. If you’re confused, seek godly brothers to walk with you.
The enemy wants passive men. Jesus wants recommissioned men. Choose today who you will follow.
Kingsman, rise. Take back your covenant. Fight for your home. Lead with blood and tears if necessary. The world needs your obedience more than your comfort.
